About Dr. Marcel Leroy
Marcel Leroy studied at VUB Brussels and at Johns Hopkins (PhD International Studies). Teaching at universities in Canada and Belgium he became Professor in 1984.
Dr Leroy was Head of Multilateral and Regional Affairs at the NATO Secretariat, Brussels. Joining the European Commission in 1996, he was Special Advisor for Multilateral Issues in Addis Ababa, completed assignments in Djibouti, Moldova, Nigeria and Sudan, and was Coordinator of the EU liaison office to African Union from 2005 to 2008.
After joining UNDP and the UN-mandated University for Peace, Dr Leroy worked on security implications of environmental and climate change in Africa.
