Clingendael, in collaboration with Free Press Unlimited, is hosting a journalists training on Climate Security for the Planetary Security Conference. Journalists from Iraq, Mali, Ethiopia, Nepal and Sudan have been invited to attend this conference, as the people living in these regions are frequently confronted with the effects of climate change.

The Working Group on Climate, Nuclear, and Security Affairs, chaired by the Center for Climate and Security, has articulated a first-of-its kind framework for understanding and addressing the complex connections between climate change, security, and nuclear issues.

A new report by WWF France entitled Sustainability, Stability and Security highlighted the Planetary Security Initiative and its partner organisations as being important for mobilizing and promoting dialogue and action on climate, security and development issues.

Security and migration links to climate change have been recognised, but the magnitude and scale of the relationship is still understudied. 10 organisations dealing with issues concerning climate-related displacements, including universities, NGOs, and specialised agencies invited young students & professionals from all around the globe, living in the Netherlands to join the challenge. The PSI side event on climate security risks will take place on Friday November 17 in the German Pavillon. It discusses how climate change acts as a “threat multiplier”, aggravating already fragile situations and contributing to security risks. This event will focus on areas for which climate change poses an immediate threat to public safety and an existential threat in the long-term, such as the Lake Chad crisis and the Small Island States.
