On Several Dutch institutes with partners work together to improve foresight capacity of water-induced conflict and migration. Within this network we combine near real-time monitoring and water shortage forecasts with socio-economic and political factors in order to provide global online information about where socially disruptive situations may arise. In addition, we are also investing in capacity to rapidly assess the effectiveness of policy actions.
The need for and usefulness of such information tools will be the topic of a recently added workshop of the Planetary Security Initiative Conference 2017 “How to forecast water-related disasters in order to act”.
From the angle of the US/Latin America, MENA region and Africa the presenters will share their expertise and ideas on the links between climate, water, conflict and migration and how data can assist to take timely and adequate action. In the second part of our session the presenters will partake in the panel to engage in a discussion facilitated by Henk Ovink with the aim to create effective call-to-actions.
It is time to act now!
