The Planetary Security Initiative, SIPRI and Adelphi have the pleasure to announce a side event during the G7-UNDP Lake Chad Climate-Fragility Risk Assessment, on the 7th of April 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden. Project manager - Janani Vivekananda, and lead researcher - Chitra Nagarajan will brief this select group on the findings of the assessment to date, and launch the Lake Chad Risk Profile. There will then be opening up to a discussion about next steps to implementing Action 4 of the Hague Declaration on Planetary Security: Supporting Joint Risk Assessment in Lake Chad.
“The Lake Chad Basin is currently suffering the world’s largest humanitarian crisis with residents around Lake Chad struggling with extreme food insecurity. There has been widespread violence. Approximately 10.7 million people need immediate humanitarian assistance.”
This side event will present up-to-date findings from the project, plus a briefing on a joint field mission and an outline of next steps for action on climate-fragility risks in Lake Chad.
